At the same time, wireless charging in Android devices has proved to be slower than wired charging. But the Apple blogger John Gruber said in a tweet in early July that wireless charging in Apple's upcoming iPhones would be delayed. But note that any rumors about the iPhone 8, or any other unreleased product, should be considered just that until Apple makes it official. If accurate, the leak would mean the iPhone 8, expected to be announced in conjunction with the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus, will have wireless-charging capabilities.

Apple's latest iPhone 8 looks set be unveiled as early as September and, if this latest leak is to be believed, it could have one massive advantage over all of its Android rivals including the S8 and Note 8. Its current Galaxy S8 is, without doubt, the best smartphone of 2017 and the competition will struggle to beat it when the tech gongs get dished out later this year. However, before the Korean tech giant begins clearing space in its trophy cabinet there may be one major rival who could throw a seriously big spanner in the works.

It was back in February that I first caught wind of the idea that Apple might decide to price a new model of the iPhone at $1,000 or more. Mark Sullivan's anonymously-sourced piece in Fast Company said a special 10th anniversary edition of the iconic smartphone would have special features and a price tag "very likely north of $1,000." It seemed a little preposterous at the time, but in the ensuing months, the idea of a even-more-expensive iPhone has gained credibility. But others see an opening for Apple to capture more revenue by moving up market. Now, with the expected launch of the new phones just a few months away, chatter about the high-priced special edition has exploded.
