Fox News declare : iPhone 8 to kill Lightning jack and home button?

The company recently removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and traditional USB Type-A ports from its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks. Other iPhone 8 rumors include the addition of wireless charging, a much improved Siri, and a 3D front camera that would enable advanced facial recognition. Most surprisingly, the latest report suggests that the Cupertino-based company will be removing the iPhone's Lightning port and replacing it with the USB Type-C port, a new industry standard. Apple introduced the Lightning connector in the 2012 iPhone 5, making it 5 years old. The iPhone 8 will likely be the most drastic evolution of Apple's smartphone in years, as Apple is reportedly ditching two long-standing features while going with an entirely new display.

as declared in Apple could ditch its Lightning cable in favour of a USB-C port in a move that could make all existing iPhone accessories redundant, it has been reported. The USB-C port has already been incorporated into MacBooks, and is an evolution of the traditional USB. The Lightning port has been in place since the release of the iPhone 5, but may be ditched for the new iPhone 8 models, according to the Wall Street Journal. The move to the Lightning port in 2012 was the source of much contention as it meant all iPhone-compatible products, such as charging stations and speaker docks, were suddenly obsolete. USB-C is used to charge many of today's high-end Android phones, so would be a move towards a universal charging cable for smartphones.
