The former iPhone engineer who created autocorrect brainstorms about Apple's next smash hit
The next smash-hit product by Apple, which could push the stock far above its $1 trillion market value, will probably surround augmented reality, former Apple software engineer Ken Kocienda told CNBC on Tuesday. "You can take your phone and you could point its camera at something in the world," said Kocienda, the developer of the on-screen keyboard on the original iPhone and the autocorrect feature. Despite the time it takes for innovations, Kocienda said, Apple still has the ability command prices for its products that other companies cannot. Last quarter, Apple reported $3.74 billion in revenue from its "other products" division, which includes sales of Apple Watches, iPods and home products. Kocienda joined CNBC following the release of his book "Creative Selection," which offers a behind-the-scenes look of Apple's creative process during the Steve Jobs era.
Apple's Budget iPhone X May Cost More Than You Expect
as declared in The iPhone 9 is actually called the 'iPhone XC' and this harks back to the iPhone 5C naming convention Apple previously used for the budget edition of the iPhone 5. CNBC reports investment bank Goldman Sachs believes the price of the iPhone XC will be $849. This is considerably higher than the $699 others have said and has the knock-on effect of pushing the iPhone XS towards the $999 price point of the iPhone X, and the new iPhone XS Max even higher than that. Something which made sense given the model does have notable compromises compared to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The iPhone XC is also expected to be late to market. Here's the Secret Behind Apple's iPhone Release Strategy -- The Motley Fool
Last year, the company released two different models for the first time, the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. This year, the company is at it again, releasing the iPhone XS and XS Max, along with the lower-priced iPhone XR. Back in 2017, the iPhone 8 came out before the higher-priced iPhone X because the X was delayed due to manufacturing bottlenecks. That actually crimped sales in the September–October time frame, as many waited until the X's release to make a decision. Clearly, some customers wanted to wait for the X's release last year.
