Back in 2011, a teenager from China made headlines after he sold one of his kidneys so he could buy the latest Apple devices. The then-17-year-old Wang Shangkun sold the organ on the black market for about US$3,200 to organ harvesters in China. Wang first made contact with organ harvesters when scouring for ways to sell his kidney for cash. Conditions worsened and he suffered organ failure.
